I’m Tyler Ellis—a proud Huntsville resident, husband, dad of four and farmer living in Utterson.For more than a decade, my work in community development and disability services has involved bringing people together, managing public resources responsibly and advocating for individuals and families whose voices are too often overlooked.I am also a founding board member and treasurer of the Muskoka Community Land Trust, where I have helped advance practical local solutions to housing affordability.I believe Stisted, Stephenson and Port Sydney deserve accessible representation, responsible financial decisions and a strong voice at Huntsville Council.

Residents deserve more than campaign promises. These commitments include clear priorities, responsible funding and public reporting so progress can be measured.
01 | BETTER RURAL ROADS
Fix the Right Roads at the Right Time
I will work for a publicly available five-year rural roads schedule based on road condition, safety, drainage, emergency access and the cost of delaying repairs.The plan will prioritize ditching, culverts and preventative maintenance before roads deteriorate into much more expensive reconstruction projects.
Publish road rankings and planned construction years
Address drainage and culverts before resurfacing
Keep road-project savings within the roads program
Bundle nearby projects to improve tender pricing
Report completed work, costs and delays annually
Funding approach: existing road allocations, procurement savings, eligible development charges and provincial or federal infrastructure funding—not a new dedicated road tax.
02 | RESPONSIBLE TAXES
Make Every Dollar Explain Itself
I will support a line-by-line budget and service review that identifies permanent savings before Council considers another tax increase.My goal will be to identify at least $300,000 in recurring efficiencies—approximately the amount required for a 1% reduction in Huntsville’s municipal tax rate—subject to verification by Town staff.
Publish the tax impact of every proposed program or position
Review contracts, consultants, software and vacant positions
Direct a portion of assessment growth toward rate stabilization
Protect roads, fire, emergency services and responsible reserves
Reject borrowing that merely hides routine operating costs
Taxpayer protection: Tax relief must come from permanent efficiencies and sustainable growth—not depleted reserves, neglected roads or costs deferred to a future council.
03 | STRONG RURAL SERVICES
Bring Rural Communities Back to the Table
I will make representation more accessible by holding regular community office hours and public meetings throughout Stisted, Stephenson and Port Sydney.Residents should also be able to see clearly how municipal decisions affect their roads, community halls, emergency response and other local services.
Hold rotating rural office hours and community meetings
Publish an annual Wards 3, 4 & 5 service and investment report
Clearly identify whether concerns belong to the Town or District
Advocate for reliable emergency coverage and volunteer recruitment
Base community-facility investments on condition, usage and need
Provide telephone and in-person options—not online communication alone
Rural fairness: Equal consideration does not always mean identical services. Decisions should reflect safety, accessibility, demonstrated need and value for taxpayers.
04 | RECREATION & COMMUNITY
Plan Boldly Without Writing a Blank Cheque
Huntsville’s current Community Services Master Plan concluded that an additional arena was not required in the immediate future. I will not ignore that evidence or promise an unaffordable building simply for political appeal.I will pursue updated participation and facility data and develop a responsible business case for a multi-use rural recreation hub in the Port Sydney area if changing demand supports it.
Update ice utilization, registration and rural participation data
Compare an arena, multi-use hub and covered outdoor-rink options
Evaluate sites based on access, parking, servicing and total cost
Pursue provincial, federal, sponsorship and community funding
Require a sustainable operating and lifecycle-maintenance plan
Protect roads and taxpayers from an unfunded capital commitment
Financial safeguard: I would not support construction until demand is demonstrated, substantial outside capital funding is secured and ongoing operations can be accommodated without a dedicated property-tax increase.
